2 Samuel 11:2 - Joseph Benson’s Commentary on the Old and New Testaments

Bible Comments

David arose from off his bed Where he had lain down to sleep in the heat of the day, as the manner was in those countries; and where he had probably slept for some time. The bed of sloth often proves the bed of lust. And walked upon the roof of his house To take the fresh air, for the roofs of the houses in that country were flat for this purpose. He saw a woman washing herself In a bath, which was in her garden; probably from some ceremonial pollution.

2 Samuel 11:2

2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
