Ecclesiastes 2:20,21 - Joseph Benson’s Commentary on the Old and New Testaments

Bible Comments

I went to cause my heart to despair I gave myself up to despair of ever reaping that satisfaction which I promised to myself. For there is a man whose labour, &c. Who uses great industry, and prudence, and justice too, in the management of his affairs; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion A portion which he will probably consume upon his lusts. This also is a great evil A great disorder in itself, and a great torment to a considering mind.

Ecclesiastes 2:20-21

20 Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun.

21 For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leavee it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.
