Proverbs 10:15 - Joseph Benson’s Commentary on the Old and New Testaments

Bible Comments

The rich man's wealth is his strong city It often redeems him from dangers and calamities: or it is such in his own imagination, as it is explained Proverbs 18:11. It makes him confident and secure. The destruction of the poor The cause of their destruction; is their poverty Which often renders them friendless, defenceless, and exposed to the injuries of the malicious and cruel. Or, as מחתת may be rendered, it is their terror, or consternation. It deprives them of courage and confidence, sinks their spirits, and fills them with fear and despair. Thus it destroys their comforts; whereas they might live very comfortably, although they had but little to live on, if they would but be content, keep a good conscience, and live by faith in the providence and promises of God.

Proverbs 10:15
