Psalms 85:1-3 - Joseph Benson’s Commentary on the Old and New Testaments

Bible Comments

Lord, thou hast been favourable unto thy land That is, unto thy people, in removing the sad effects of thy displeasure. Thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob The captives, as that word is used Psalms 14:7; Psalms 68:18, and elsewhere. Thou hast covered all their sin So as not to impute it to them, or to continue the punishment which thou didst inflict upon them for it. Thou hast taken away all thy wrath Those calamities which were the effects of thy just wrath conceived against us.

Psalms 85:1-3

1 LORD, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.

2 Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.

3 Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.
