(14) And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man. (15) So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Daniel even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.
It is worthy our observation, that this memorable transaction was on the very spot where in ages before the LORD showed mercy to Abraham, even on mount Moriah. And this I cannot but think becomes a further confirmation of what I before suggested. Surely so grand an object as the redemption of our sinful nature by the sacrifice of JESUS, was deservedly shadowed forth, at various times, to the several ages of the faithful which were so highly interested in it. Hence Abraham is commanded to sacrifice, his son; and the pestilence to Israel lays the foundation for the introduction of this sacrifice again, in the same spot, on mount Moriah. See Genesis 22:2.
