passeth under the rod. The custom of counting was for the animals to pass through. small opening, and to be counted with the rod as they passed. Every tenth one was to be taken and marked; and not to be chosen (Leviticus 27:33). This custom is referred to in Ezekiel 20:37, i.e. once more claimed and marked ac belonging to Jehovah.
