provoke Him to speak. Greek apostomatizo. Occurs only here. The Papyri show that from its original meaning (to dictate what was to be written) it had come to mean "to examine by questioning. pupil as to what he had been taught". Here, therefore, they were not questioning for information, but for grounds of accusation.
