a fig tree. The symbol of Israel as to national privilege.

having leaves. Compare Mark 13:28. Summer was not near. Symbolical of Israel at that time.

came. went.

if haply. it after all. App-118. As in Mark 11:26. Not the same as in verses: Mark 11:3; Mark 11:31; Mark 11:32. He had reason to expect fruit, as figs appear before or with the leaves.

13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
