And when Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, herself the daughter of Jezebel and the granddaughter of Omri, 2 Kings 8:26-27, saw that her son was dead, 2 Kings 9:27, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal, all the male members of the royal house, in order that she might retain her position of queen-mother and queen-regent.
