1 John 2:3 - Matthew Poole's English Annotations on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

OLBGrk;

This faith is often in the Holy Scripture signified by the name of knowledge, Isaiah 53:11 1 Thessalonians 17:3, viz. an appropriative, transformative knowledge, by which we own and accept God in Christ, as ours, (expressed also by acknowledgment, epignwsiv, Ephesians 1:17 Colossians 2:2), and are changed into his likeness, 2 Corinthians 3:18. The meaning then is: That we perceive, or discern ourselves to be sincere believers, and consequently that Christ is both our Propitiation and Advocate, when it is become habitual and easy to us to obey his commandments.

1 John 2:3

3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
