Had sailed slowly many days; the wind being contrary, or at least very bare, and, it may be, their ship much laden. Cnidus; a city or promontory over against Crete, which is now called Candia, a known island in the Mediterranean. Salmone; a sea town in Candia, or the easterly promontory there, so called.
