Ephesians 5:28 - Matthew Poole's English Annotations on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies; with the same kind of love wherewith they love their own bodies. The woman at first was taken out of the man, and on that account the wife may be said to be a part of her husband. He that loveth his wife loveth himself; either this explains the former, and himself here is the same as their own bodies before; or it adds to it, and is as much as, his own person, the wife being another self, one flesh, the same person (in a civil sense) with her husband.

Ephesians 5:28
