Aholah, the kingdom of Israel, or the ten tribes, played the harlot; united in confederacy in civil concerns, and in idolatry as to religious concerns, with the Assyrians. When she was mine; when under my government and protection, or in my presence, or before I had abdicated and cast her off. Doted; were madly enamoured with the Assyrian idols, temples, and manner of worship. Her lovers; whom she loved, not that I find they so much loved her. The Assyrians; so often mentioned, nothing needs be said of them. Her neighbours; so they were now by their seizing of Syria, and possessing it as their own 2 Kings 15:19.
