Isaiah 57:16 - Matthew Poole's English Annotations on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

I will not contend for ever; I will not constantly proceed to the utmost severity with sinful men in this life, and therefore I will put an end to the miseries of the Jews, and turn their captivity. For the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made; for then their spirits would sink and die under my stroke, and I should do nothing else but destroy the works of mine own hands. Therefore I consider their infirmity, and spare them. Compare Psalms 78:38,39 Psalms 103:13,14.

Isaiah 57:16

16 For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.
