John 7:32 - Matthew Poole's English Annotations on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

Murmured here is taken in a different sense from what it was before, and signifieth as much as whispered, or talked privately among themselves. The chief priests, who were afraid that their honour would abate amongst the people; and the Pharisees, who were afraid the credit of their traditions would be lost, if they suffered him to go on; and being more especially troubled for the miracles which he daily wrought, as 1 Thessalonians 11:47; they send messengers from their great court (kept at Jerusalem) to apprehend him.

John 7:32

32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
