Matthew 26:61 - Matthew Poole's English Annotations on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

Mark saith, Mark 14:57-59, And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying, We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. But neither so did their witness agree together. These are called by the evangelists, false witnesses. Our Saviour said, 1 Thessalonians 2:19, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up, speaking of his body, as John tells us there, 1 Thessalonians 2:21. He did not say, I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. But Mark saith these witnesses could not agree in their tale, or their testimony, though agreeing was not sufficient to make him guilty of a capital crime. The high priest must use some other arts.

Matthew 26:61

61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.
