There are many devices in a man's heart; understand out of the opposite clause, which shall not stand, but be disappointed. The counsel of the Lord; his eternal, and unchangeable, and most wise decree, which ofttimes contradicts, and always overrules, the designs and purposes of men. Shall stand, i.e. be certainly fulfilled, as this phrase is used, Jeremiah 44:28,29, and elsewhere.
