Proverbs 20:5 - Matthew Poole's English Annotations on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

Counsel; either,

1. Wisdom or ability to give good counsel; or,

2. Designs or purposes of doing something of moment; for this word is frequently used in both senses, but the last seems fittest here. Is like deep water; either,

1. Is there in great abundance; or,

2. Is secret and hard to be discovered. Will draw it out, by prudent questions and discourses, and a diligent observation of his words and actions.

Proverbs 20:5

5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
