1 Corinthians 14:26 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

Every one of you hath a psalm,— Is ready with a psalm, with a doctrine, &c. Locke. It seems probable, that some of these Christians were so full of themselves, and so desirous of exercising their respective gifts, that, without waiting for the permission and direction of him who presided in the assembly (which in the synagogues the Apostles themselves seem to have done, see Acts 13:15.), several began speaking or singing in the same minute, and some began while others were speaking. The manner in which discourses were carried on in the schools of the philosophers, (where several little knots of disputants seem to have been engaged at the same time,) and what happened frequently in the Jewish synagogues after worship was concluded, might possibly have given occasion to this irregularity.

1 Corinthians 14:26

26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
