1 John 5:11 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

And this is the record, &c.— The phrase 'Η μαρτυρια seems here to signify, not the evidence of testimony, but the thing proved or testified of. So ch. 1 John 2:25. This is the promise, that is, the thing promised. The verse may be thus paraphrased: "And this is the substance andabridgment of this testimony, that the blessed God has, in his infinite condescension and bounty, given unto us the promises of eternal life; and this life is in his Son; purchased by him, and laid up in him, to be bestowed on all his faithful saints; and therefore only to be obtained through him."

1 John 5:11

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
