In perils of waters,— Or, of rivers: the word should certainly be so rendered, to contradistinguish these hazards, from those which he underwent by sea. In the city, means not only in Jerusalem, but in other cities, in opposition to perils in the wilderness. The Apostle possibly mentions false brethren last, as apprehending peculiar danger from their efforts among the Corinthians.
