It came to pass after this, &c.— When David had taken Rabbah and all the other cities of Ammon, he had not long returned to Jerusalem before his domestic misfortunes began to multiply upon him, and to verify the terrible threats which Nathan had denounced from the Lord, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house. Tamar was the daughter of Maacah, the daughter of the king of Geshur, and the uterine sister of Absalom. Amnon was David's eldest son by Ahinoam.

1 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
