It was before the Lord— I uncovered myself before the Lord. Houb. Who renders the last clause of the verse, therefore have I rejoiced before the Lord. The Hebrew word, שׂחקתי sichakti, according to Chandler, refers to David's playing like the rest of the people on some musical instrument, as it is expressly said in the 5th verse, that David and all the house of Israel played [משׂחקים mesuchekim] before the Lord.

21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.
