Breaking of bread, is a phrase which in the New Testament signifies, both eating common meals and celebrating the Lord's supper. It seems that the Lord's supper was here intended; because it is joined with prayer. They constantly attended upon the teaching of the apostles, in strict communion, and the exercise of the most affectionate friendship towards each other; uniting in the duties of piety, in receiving the Lord's supper, as well as offering up their united prayers and supplications unto God. Dr. Heylin reads after the Vulgate, In the communion of breaking bread.
