Coos,— Coos, or Cos, was one of the islands of Cyclades, famous for the worship of Esculapius, and the temple of Juno. There also Hippocrates the prince of physicians, and Apelles the celebrated painter, were born. Rhodes was another island, famous for the worship of the sun, and for the brazen Colossus erected there, which was reckoned one of the seven wonders of the world. Patara was the chief city and port of Lycia.

1 And it came to pass, that after we were gotten from them, and had launched, we came with a straight course unto Coos, and the day following unto Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara:
