Well spake the Holy Ghost— The apostle could not refer to them all, because some believed; but it is probable that most of them rejected the gospel. With respect to this passage from Isaiah, which he applies to them, we observe that it is quoted oftener than any other text of the Old Testament, that is, six times, in the New; yet in such a variety of expression, as plainly proves that the apostles did not confine themselves exactlyeither to the words of the original, or of the Greek version.
