Deuteronomy 17:19 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Ver. 19. It shall be with him, and he shall read therein, &c.— He shall carry it always with him: and, says Maimonides, instead of losing his time in feasting and idle diversions, he shall apply himself to the study of the law of his God. But how these orders were observed, we may judge from the example of Josiah, who, when he was near sixteen years of age, had not so much as ever seen a copy of the law, the original of which he found in the temple, where it had lain long neglected.
