Ecclesiastes 9:16 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

Then said I, Wisdom is better, &c.— Then said I, Wisdom is preferable to power: Yet the wisdom of this experienced man is despised, and his deeds are not mentioned. We have here the first instance. Though wisdom is, in its own nature, much superior to strength and power, (as plainly appears from the foregoing example, wherein strength was wanting, and yet a wonderful deliverance wrought by wisdom alone) yet it is not minded, when the possessor of it has nothing to recommend him besides his abilities and services, and his best actions are soon forgotten.

Ecclesiastes 9:16

16 Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
