He made them houses— He made them families, i.e. in the obvious sense of the words, he recompensed their piety, virtue, and courage, by making them prosperous, and their families considerable in Israel. In which sense, all the versions we have met with understand the passage: and as this is the case, and as the expression is truly scriptural, there surely can be no need to look out for other and forced interpretations.
