When Jethro the priest, &c.— Houbigant and others translate this, When Jethro the prince of Midian, the kinsman or relation of Moses, heard, &c. See note on ch. Exodus 2:18 and Genesis 14:17. Like Melchisedec, he was, most probably, both prince and priest; see Exodus 18:12. Father-in-law, throughout the chapter, should be read kinsman.
