Genesis 5:29 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

Called his name Noah, saying, this same shall comfort, &c.— Noah (נה) the proper name is derived from the verb we render comfort, and consequently implies consolation: and the following words, concerning our work and toil of our hands, &c. seem to affix this consolation to corporal labour, respecting the productions of the earth. But we know so little of the state of the antediluvian earth, and the degree of toil consequent upon the original curse, that it is impossible to determine in the present case.

Genesis 5:29
