Tops of the mountains seen— This is no contradiction to the former verse, in which it is said, that the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat; for it is very easy to conceive, that a vessel of so heavy burden as the ark was, might rest upon the earth when there were several feet of water still prevailing.

Genesis 8:5

5 And the waters decreasedb continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
