Then shall we know, if, &c.— Let us meet together, therefore, and studiously inquire after the knowledge of the Lord. Houbigant. The captives of Babylon promise themselves that the Lord will come to them, and appear like the brightness of the morning, in the midst of the dark night of their exile; or as the refreshing rain upon the parched earth. So the Lord Jesus Christ, in his resurrection, appeared as the morning, or rather as the rising sun, to illuminate the world.
