Jeremiah 11:8 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

Therefore I will bring— Therefore have I brought. It is of the nature of a covenant to denounce penalties against the presumptuous transgressor of it. And the sanctions of the Mosaic covenant may be seen scattered through different parts of the law, but particularly Leviticus 26:14; Leviticus 26:46. Deuteronomy 11:26-28; Deuteronomy 27; Deuteronomy 28; Deuteronomy 30:15; Deuteronomy 30:20. Our English translators have rendered ואביא vaabi in the future tense; but it has the signification of the preter, because of the vau conversive. And there is no impropriety in saying, that God had already brought upon the people the evils, which he had not only resolved on, but had begun in some measure to carry into execution.

Jeremiah 11:8

8 Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imaginationa of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.
