The temple of the Lord are these— These gates, in which Jeremiah was commanded to stand: so in the Gospel our Savour says, See you all these things? pointing to the temple, of which one stone was not to be left upon another. The threefold repetition of the temple of the Lord, expresses great vehemence, and an extreme presumption in these people. The prophet in apostrophizing Judaea, chap. Jeremiah 22:29 makes use of a like threefold repetition.
