Against the day of my burying, &c.— The Jews first washed the corpse all over with water, after it was laid out, Acts 9:37 and then anointed it with liquid spices, or odours, as appears from this apology which our Lord makes for Mary; for the full import whereof, see the note on Matthew 26:10.
