These things have I spoken, &c.— "The things which I have now told you, concerning the hatred of the world, the reason of that hatred, the dishonour done by it to God, the punishment wherewith it shall be followed, and the supernatural assistance which you shall receive,—I have spoken to keep you from taking offence at the further discoveries, that I am going to make of the evils to which you will be exposed, and to prevent your being overcome by those evils when they befal you."
