So when they had rowed, &c.— Probably when they found the wind so violent, their were afraid of being shipwrecked, if they came near the shore; and therefore, having perhaps sailed awhile before the wind they now rowed out to sea; for as they must have been several hours at sea, one can hardly imagine, that with so brisk a gale, they made no more way in all this time than a little abovea league, unless we impute it to their having laboured all they could to avoid crossing the sea, and to get to Bethsaida. 19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.
