Leviticus 25:23 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

The land shall not be sold for ever— That is, absolutely and irredeemably: the reason of which is subjoined, because God considered himself as the peculiar lord and proprietor of this land, and the people as his immediate tenants and usufructuaries: which points out to us the striking peculiarity of the Jewish state and polity; a theocracy, under which they lived not only as subjects, but as tenants to God, their king and their lord.

Leviticus 25:23

23 The land shall not be sold for ever:c for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.
