And are the children of God, &c.— Our Lord is here speaking of the resurrection of the just, who are called God's children, on account of the inheritance bestowed on them at the resurrection, and particularly on account of their being dignified with immortality, as well as for many other reasons. See Romans 8:17. Galatians 4:7. 1 John 3:2.

36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
