Luke 23:47 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

He glorified God,— That is, by a free confession of his persuasion of the innocence of Jesus: Certainly this was a righteous man; δικαιος,— the character given of him before he was condemned, Matthew 27:19. See Ch. Luke 5:26. Judges 7:19 and the note on Matthew 27:54 where, as well as Mark 15:39 the centurion testifies that Jesus is the Son of God. "How then is it, say some, that St. Luke declares him only a righteous man?" To which it may be replied, that he made use of both these expressions.

Luke 23:47

47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.
