Luke 3:6 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

And all flesh shall see the salvation of God— The evangelist seems to have quoted these words from Isaiah 52:10 though they may very well agree with Isaiah 40:5 where the prophet says, all flesh shall see it together, that is to say, the glory of the Lord, amply revealed in the salvation of mankind. See Ch. Luke 2:30. St. Luke seems to have taken in this part of the prophesy, which is omitted by St. Matthew, in order to point out its accomplishment, by the admission of the Gentiles into the church of Christ; for it plainly appeared to every discerning believer, at the time when he wrote, that all flesh was to see the salvation of God, and to partake, if faithful, of its inestimable benefits.
