Luke 7:16 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

Saying,—that God hath visited his people,— This is the expression which Zacharias the father ofthe Baptist used, when he spoke of the coming of the Messiah, ch. Luke 1:68. Wherefore the meaning of the inhabitants of Nain was this, God hath visited the people, by having raised up among them the great Prophet, promised to Moses in the law. The evangelist justly observes, that by acknowledging Jesus as the Messiah, they glorified God.

Luke 7:16

16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
