The father of Alexander and Rufus— In the note on Matthew 27:32 we have observed, that these two persons were two noted men among the first Christians, who resided at Rome, and who being well known there, St. Mark makes this mention of them, on account of the Christians at Rome and others, who were acquainted with them or their names.

Mark 15:21

21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.
