Deliver my soul, &c.— Bishop Hare observes, that in these two verses the Psalmist recapitulates the four things that he had before mentioned, and to which he had compared his enemies; the sword, the lion, the dogs, the unicorns, [the oryx or buffalo] substituted instead of bulls; and he intreats the Lord to deliver him from them all. Instead of, my darling from the power of the dog, the Arabic reads, and from the hand or power of the dog, which has seized me. Houbigant and Mudge, for darling read my solitary, or, only one; meaning his soul, or life; which was now left destitute, and exposed to all the outrages of his enemies.
