THIS Book was most probably written by Samuel, and in favour of the family of David, as appears from the genealogy at the close of it. It is a kind of supplement to the Book of Judges; properly filling up the void between that and the Book of Samuel. Respecting the principal design of it, see the note on chap. Ruth 4:17.
