1 Corinthians 11:20 - John Trapp Complete Commentary

Bible Comments

When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper.

Ver. 20. This is not to eat, &c.] When the Lord's supper therefore is not rightly administered, it is no longer his; especially if the substantials thereof be omitted. As in those sacrifices,Hosea 9:4; "Their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the Lord;" that is, the bread for their natural sustenance. He speaks of that meat offering,Leviticus 2:4, appointed for a spiritual use, yet called the "bread for their life or livelihood;" because God esteemed it no other than common meat. So Jeremiah 7:21, in scorn he calls their sacrifice, flesh, &c.
