And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me.
Ver. 4. Out of the midst of the fire.] The law was given in fire; it is "a law of fire," Deu 33:2 given by God, who is "a consuming fire," Heb 12:29 and hath a tribunal of fire, Eze 1:27 and shall plead with transgressors in flames of fire; Isa 66:15-16 the trial of our works shall be by fire. 1Co 3:13 "Let us therefore have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and godly fear."
