And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

Musaeus calleth him υδρογενης, Water sprung, because "drawn," as David was afterwards, "out of many waters." Psa 18:16 Clement of Alexandra saith, that at his circumcision, Moses was called Melchi; others say Joachim: but that is as uncertain as that he was the same with Mercurins Trismegistus.
