By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.

Ver. 23. Hid three months of his parents] That they hid him no longer argued weakness of their faith, which yet is both commended and rewarded.

He was a proper child] αστειον, fair to God, Acts 7:20, having a divine beauty and comeliness. Special endowments are a foretoken of special employment. The very heathen in choosing their kings had a special eye to bodily beauty. See 1Sa 10:23; 1 Samuel 16:19; 1 Samuel 17:42 .

Not afraid of the king's commandment] Because unjust and impious. See Trapp on " Act 4:19 "
